DIY : I am in the middle of setting up a small portrait studio, and, needing to be frugal about this, I am trying to recycle as much stuff as possible for this project. I just completed phase one, turning an old IKEA office chair into a portrait stool (which are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive!!!!!!)
This was a nice chair to use, since: a) I don't use it anymore, b) it has a pneumatic piston on the seat and c:) it is the right width.

This cost me about $10 in tools and $7 dollars in materials. The cheapest stool online is about eighty dollars. So I think it was worth the two hours it took to build. This was also the first chance I got to test out the g9 and make sure it works properly. On with the gory details.......

North Carolina : Jessica and I drove down to Southern Pines, North Carolina for her best friend's husband's fortieth birthday party. We got to explore a little of downtown Pinehurst and Southern Pines (the U.S. Amateur was being held in Pinehurst that weekend, so we couldn't get to the most famous of all North Carolina's courses). I got to play a lovely round of golf, Jessica got recruited to help set up the surprise party and we both visited the Creation/Antique Tools/Taxidermy Museum. The few pictures are the consequence of my poor camera; it broke mid-trip; most of the party pictures came out to fuzzy to fix........

Corrected Photos : I'm experimenting with a trial version of elements (who can afford a full copy of Photoshop?) So far, I've had a little luck with it. I like the direct export to SmugMug, and there are some nice pre-installed templates. I'll be adding photos here as I can. Still wish Picasa was available for the Mac, but till then, I have 29 more days to decide if this is worth a hundred bucks........

Miniature Golf : We went to Burholme Park to hit a bucket or two of balls, but decided a nice friendly round of miniature golf would be better (it didn't stay friendly! The boys can be competitive, especially when it comes to figuring out who's turn it is! The "away" rule won out, for the sake of keeping the peace). 2005 Manayunk Arts Festival : This was from the last Arts Festival that the ABSOLUT Spirits Company decided to sponsor ( a spirits company traditionally sponsored it due to the enormous amount of restaurants on Main Street). It had two components: a consumer activity/exhibition called ABSOLUT Chalk, where the general public was invited to draw chalk portraits, and a restaurant event. All restaurants were invited to decorate an ABSOLUT bottle. It is both with relief and sadness that ABSOLUT no longer sponsors this event; while the work involved setting up this event won't be missed, it was always a great way to endear restaurants to our company in a wonderful part of the city.
